Chair of Marine Science, UWA Oceans Institute

2021 – ongoing

The Foundation was proud to establish a Chair of Marine Science in perpetuity at the UWA Oceans Institute. This endowment, named the Jock Clough Marine Foundation Oceans Chair, signifies our shared and unwavering commitment to marine research.

Professor Stephen Swearer is the Jock Clough Marine Foundation Oceans Chair at the UWA Oceans Institute. His research spans multiple disciplines, developing methods to assess and manage environmental impacts and restore marine habitats. Recently, his work has taken a more applied approach, identifying the causes of extinction risk in fishes and coastal marine ecosystems to inform water, pollution, and fisheries management policies.

He followed a degree in Aquatic Biology from Brown University, USA with a PhD in coral reef fish larval ecology from the University of California. More recently, Prof. Swearer served as the Director of the National Centre for Coasts and Climate at the University of Melbourne.

We thank The University of Western Australia for their equal co-investment to support this Chair.
